The Arlington Department of Veterans’ Services, in conjunction with the Veterans Council, will be conducting the annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 30, 2016 at 09:30 AM in the auditorium of the Town Hall. Unlike previous years, there will not be a parade from Walgreen’s to Monument Park. Instead, the entire ceremony will be conducted at the Town Hall. Immediately following the observance, wreath laying ceremonies and the unveiling of the new veteran’s memorial will be conducted at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
This year Arlington will be dedicating the final veteran’s burial lot at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. This veteran lot will be dedicated in honor of the men and women that have served our country throughout the on-going Global War on Terrorism Campaign.
“Due to the nature of this year’s tribute, I felt that conducting the ceremony at the Town Hall would allow more residents to participate and concerns regarding bad weather would be eliminated,” said Jeffrey Chunglo, Director of Veterans’ Services. “This change also allows for a more comfortable environment for our residents and guest speakers.”
In addition to our state and local officials, Medal of Honor recipient CAPT Thomas Kelley has provided his remarks and the keynote speaker will be Major General Jeffery Clark. Major General Clark is the current Director of the Defense Health Agency and former Commanding Officer of the National Military Medical Center at Bethesda.
Please join the tribute at Town Hall to honor the men and women that have served and sacrificed so much for our freedom.
