Tree Inventory Map
During the summer of 2017 volunteers and interns conducted an inventory of all Arlington street trees, and many of the trees found in parks, cemeteries, and along the bike trail. The data has been mapped in this interactive map below and will provide helpful information toward the Town’s long-term tree management plan.

Request a Street Tree
Trees add many benefits to a community. They clean the air, provide shade, conserve energy, and add curb appeal. There are many areas that could benefit from a street tree. If you'd like more trees in your neighborhood you can submit an online request to the Town. Trees will be planted based on availability and all locations will approved by the Tree Department. Those requesting trees will be asked to care for and water the tree for the first two years, until the tree is well established. Make a Tree Planting Request in Arlington's Request/Answer Center.

According to the 1998 statistical survey (3.8MB pdf) of 24,000 trees bordering Arlington's streets and sidewalks, Arlington  has far too many Norway maples (40% of all street trees). If you want to plant trees that will help make our community forest more varied and interesting, consider the species listed below. All are suitable for use near streets, sidewalks, patios, and other areas where people are likely to talk or linger. These trees are hardy, high-branching, deciduous and in many cases ornamental as well.
