Mission
The Arlington Disability Commission works to raise awareness of the rights and needs of people with disabilities, and works for full inclusion in all aspects of community life in Arlington.
Disabilities and impairments can include physical, sensory, cognitive, intellectual, and other types of chronic disease.
The Commission:

Researches local problems faced by people with disabilities

Advises and assists Town officials and employees to ensure compliance with state and federal laws

Coordinates programs designed to meet the needs of people with disabilities

Reviews and makes recommendations about Town policies, procedures, services, activities, and facilities that affect people with disabilities and their families

Provides information, referrals, and technical assistance on disability-related issues to residents, organizations, and businesses in Arlington, to insure that people with physical, sensory, cognitive, and other disabilities have equal access to Town facilities, services, and programs

Meetings
The Commission meets monthly offering hybrid participation, typically the third Wednesday of each month from 6:00-8:00pm. The public is welcome to attend the monthly meetings, and if any accommodations are needed please contact DisabilityComm@town.arlington.ma.us within 1-2 weeks prior to the meeting.
Commissioners
The Commission is composed of nine Arlington resident volunteers, all appointed by the Town Manager with the approval from the Select Board. In keeping with Massachusetts law, the majority of Commissioners have disabilities or have family members with disabilities. The Commission works closely with the Town’s ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) Coordinator.
