At their February 5, 2024 meeting the Arlington Redevelopment Board dissolved the Master Plan Implementation Committee and its working groups, including this one.

Mill Brook Corridor Study Group

The Mill Brook Corridor Study Group was formed in late 2015 to increase awareness and guide changes in the Mill Brook corridor. The group includes membership from the Mystic River Watershed Association, the Conservation Commission, the Redevelopment Board, and the Open Space Committee. The Mill Brook was recognized in the Master Plan as a hidden gem with the potential to create transformative change as a multi-faceted resource for the Town. The study group has recently completed the 2019 Mill Brook Corridor Report — an update to the 2010 Mill Brook Linear Park Report — which recommends actions to create opportunities for conserving and protecting this resource while leveraging recreational, economic development, and historic preservation opportunities on the 35% of town-owned land within 100 yards of the Brook.

About the 2019 Report

The Mill Brook Corridor Report supplements information in the 2010 report and examines new opportunities to support the vision for the corridor as an ecological and cultural resource for the community. The report describes planning studies and physical improvements that have taken place since 2010, and identifies specific ongoing, near-term, mid-term, and long-range actions that can be taken to link public open spaces with the parallel routes of the Minuteman Bikeway, Mass Ave, and Summer Street. The report will help the Town target initiatives that prioritize and improve Mill Brook by identifying actions that can be taken in multiple areas: environment and ecosystem management, flood control, recreation, economic development, transportation, historical context, and placemaking. The report also offers simple suggestions on what property owners can do to improve the Mill Brook.

Mill Brook Rediscovered

In conjunction with the exhibit "A Brook Runs Through It: Arlington's Mill Brook Legacy", Arlington resident Glenn Litton wrote, directed, and produced a short video "Mill Brook Rediscovered". The exhibit and the video document nearly 400 years of activity along the brook, from the first water-powered grist mill at what is now Cooke's Hollow through centuries of changing land uses to a look at the corridor today.
